Crazy Eights and That Other Person

A wintertime tradition at CST, Studio Diner Theatre is back this month starting Friday, January 23, for two weekends with a double feature of two comedies from playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. This year, you can enjoy the shows with a delicious meal by Valparaiso downtown restaurant Radius in our upstairs Edith B. Wood Studio!
In âCrazy Eights,â Connie comes home late one night to her parole officer waiting in her apartment with a torte and a long list of questions. The interrogation/courting dance that follows is complicated by the after-hours arrival of Connie’s charming card-playing buddy.
Next, in âThat Other Personâ George and Kevin are going to tell their respective spouses the marriage-shattering secret they’ve been keeping from everyone. But their bombshell gets put on the back-burner when a gorgeous peeping-tom, with secrets of her own, falls in the pool and nearly drowns.
Dine in our studio with your choice of three entres: Chicken Dinner, BBQ Dinner, or Mac & Cheese (vegetarian option). All meals include House Salad, Rolls, Orange Sherbet and Beverage, including drink ticket that may be redeemed for wine or beer.

Farce of Habit

“Farce of Habit” is a comedy set in Arkansas at Reel “Em Inn, a fishing lodge. This one particular weekend includes a celebrity trying to evade the public, a group of nuns having a nature retreat, a businessman who is learning “to live”, a serial killer on the loose, and a tornado. As this is a farce, the situations and costumes border on the absurd.

In 1911, Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her discovery of the elements radium and polonium. By 1912, she was the object of ruthless gossip over an alleged affair with the married Frenchman Paul Langevin, all but erasing her achievements from public memory. Weakened and demoralized by the press lambasting her as a âforeignâ Jewish temptress and a homewrecking traitor, Marie agrees to join her friend and colleague Hertha Ayrton, an electromechanical engineer and suffragette, at her summer home in England. THE HALF-LIFE OF MARIE CURIE revels in the power of female friendship as it explores the relationship between these two brilliant women, both of whom are mothers, widows, and fearless champions of scientific inquiry.

Into The Woods

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece… and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

As the debates escalate, their conflicting views on love, friendship, politics, death and taxes are revealed. The only referee in the debate seems to be Judy Clabber, a single mother who is Billy’s cleaning lady. In the end, which player holds the trump card? After reluctantly filling in for one of the girls, he trades his sequined jumpsuit for a sequined dress. Casey evolves his new act into a drag persona that is uniquely his. Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950s. At the moment, theyâre playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo, New York with five actors. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by Georgeâs dalliance with a young ingĂŠnue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughterâs clueless fiancĂŠ and hilarious uncertainty about which play theyâre actually performing, caused by Charlotteâs deaf, old stage-manager mother who hates every bone in Georgeâs body.

The Four Old Broads are back, with some wacky new friends, in an all-new comedy! Hamlet

110 Stories

From the first crash at the Towers to a last goodbye at Ground Zero, 110 Stories takes us through 9/11 as told by those who were there. Based on interviews, this docu-play weaves together stories not shown on the news, from people we can relate to…a mother, a photojournalist, an ironworker, a chiropractor, and a homeless man who saved lives that day. Their unflinching, freaked-out and occasionally funny accounts take us back to when 9/11 was unimaginable, capturing the shock and horror of the day as well as the resilience of New York City in its aftermath. Remaining apolitical, 110 Stories memorializes September 11th by humanizing history to reveal our innate compassion.

‘night, Mother
Date: November 6-22 2026

Synopsis: The scene is the living room/kitchen of a small house on an isolated country road, which is shared by Jessie and her mother. Jessieâs father is dead; her loveless marriage ended in divorce; her absent son is a petty thief and neâer-do-well; her last job didnât work out, and, in general, her life is stale and unprofitable. As the play begins, Jessie asks for her fatherâs service revolver and calmly announces that she intends to kill herself. At first her mother refuses to take her seriously, but as Jessie sets about tidying the house and making lists of things to be looked after, her sense of desperate helplessness begins to build. In the end, with the inexorability of genuine tragedy, she can only stand by, stunned and unbelieving, as Jessie quietly closes and locks her bedroom door and ends her profound unhappiness in one fatal, stunning and deeply disturbing momentâa moment never to be forgotten by those who have witnessed, and come to understand, her plight.
